Tuscany, in central Italy, is a region where one can get lost in romantic, poetic, and artistic dreams. With major cities including its capital, Florence, Siena, and Pisa, the agricultural landscape is ripe for romance to flourish. Its artistic heritage is inspiring and its architecture and natural beauty sets hearts on fire. It’s the birthplace of famous people including Leonardo di Vinci, Michelangelo, and Fibonacci. Clearly, there’s something in the water. There’s only one problem: with so much to choose from, narrowing down the most romantic wedding venues in Tuscany is overwhelming.
To support your process, I’ve put together a list of my favorite venues, drawn from my experience as a Tuscany wedding photographer. From romantic villas, charming tenutas (an Italian state or vineyard), and luxury hotels, Tuscany has options for all budgets, all tastes, and all couples. Let’s jump straight into it.
Best Wedding Venues In Tuscany
When considering your destination wedding in Tuscany, the usual considerations are required: budget, date availability, the number of guests, hiring a wedding photographer, etc.
Some of the below wedding venues have their own chapels for ceremonies, whilst others offer symbolic or civil ceremonies. Most have some form of additional accommodation for guests and are ideal for staying for a few days before and after to make the most of the facilities.
Expect to pay around €5,000 for a farmhouse venue, and up to €40,000 for a luxury villa. The benefit of staying on site is that you can ask your guests to cover accommodation costs, leaving you with catering (roughly €120 per person) and other costs.
If you’re traveling from further afield, the major cities in Tuscany are all worth visiting, so I’d recommend extending your stay if budget permits.
La Pescaia
The Tolomei family estate dates back to 1522. It has been transformed into a luxurious resort with 19 rooms, six thousand ancient olive trees, awe-inspiring gardens, and a pool. La Pescaia has an abundance of charm, frozen in time but warmed by the Italian sun. Weddings make the most of 6,000 square meters, a restaurant using only organic ingredients from the garden. Plus, with space for 34 guests to stay at the nearby guesthouse, it’s an intimate Tuscany wedding venue with accommodation.
Villa La Selva
Surrounded by the Chianti hills (the name may be familiar due to the region’s wine), Villa La Selva emphasizes intimacy, elegance, and refinement. The villa was once home to the Florentine De' Medici family in the early 1400s and was transformed into a wine resort in the 1950s.
Weddings at Villa La Selva are designed for those who prefer modest and slower paced celebrations to all-out partying, with guests who love getting lost in conversation. There are indoor and outdoor options, including a family chapel and ancient garden, plus accommodation for up to 39 guests.
Villa Collalto
Situated 15 kilometers from Siena is another refined venue, Villa Collalto, a luxury private villa with the hallmarks of the Tuscan countryside; immaculate gardens, breathtaking views, and a sense of prestige.
Originally owned by a noble Roman family, the space now offers 16 bedrooms, a pool, tennis court, jacuzzi, and a gym. Weddings at Villa Collalto make the most of the outdoor gardens, with inside options on the rare occurance of bad weather.
Villa Talamo
With Villa Talamo, not only do you get views of the Tuscan countryside, but the ocean, too. Nestled on the edge of the Argentario, the turquoise hue of the Mediterranean is visible from the 18th century venue and within walking distance, if by some chance you are bored of the luxury of the infinity pool and surrounding grounds!
With spacious outdoor options, a Villa Talamo wedding is a viable option for both intimate and grand weddings, along with a private chapel with a marble altar.
Conti Di San Bonifacio
Another wine resort, Conti Di San Bonifacio is an award-winning venue offering a range of wedding packages – from exclusive ceremonies to intimate services for up to 10 people or low-key elopements. Indoor options at the restored farmhouse cater up to 80 guests, with space for up to 130 guests for celebrations outside. Without a doubt, this is one of the most magical wedding locations in Tuscany.
Il Borro
Once the home of Duke Amedeo di Savoia-Aosta, the century-old hamlet is surrounded by a vast 1,100 hectares of land. Weddings at Il Borro immerse themselves in the authentic Tuscan experience, with no need to explore further.
On site there are options for golf, horse riding, wine tours, or cooking classes. Away from activities, Il Borro is a serene haven, with space to host up to 191 guests for two or three days. Ceremonies can choose from a nineteenth-century manor house, the private Renaissance gardens, or the stunning old Orangerie.
Borgo Petrognano
What comes to mind when you think of a bed and breakfast? Chances are it’s not somewhere as luxurious as Borgo Petrognano, another romantic Tuscany wedding villa that has been opened to guests.
Located 45 minutes from both Florence and Siena airports, the staff on location take great care to accommodate all your needs and specialize in bucolic ceremonies – a fancy word for celebrations immersed in nature, from flowers to hillside. Plus, there’s a pool and spa area to relax before and after the special day.
Tenuta Corbinaia
Another venue in the Chianti hills, Tenuta Corbinaia is a luxury wedding venue in Tuscany that looks like it inspired a Disney movie. Surrounded by 40 hectares of vineyards and olive groves, the 19th century farmhouse hosts weddings for up to 130 guests and accommodates up to 16 guests in eight different rooms.
Although Tuscany is spoiled with beautiful options, the panoramic views and gardens of this are a particular highlight.
Borgo Sant’Ambrogio
Stretching back to the 17th century, Borgo Sant’Ambrogio was a convent for nuns devoted to Sant’Ambrogio. This extravagant resort hosts 11 suites, gardens, and its own chapel for civil, catholic, and symbolic weddings.
Borgo Sant’Ambrogio also has a restaurant that accommodates 100 people, in a breathtaking space with vaulted ceilings. Located in a nature reserve, there are views of nearby lakes and greenery, plus a pebble paved entrance to make an unforgettable first impression.
Villa Catureglio
Overlooking the Garfagnana Valley near the bottom of the Apuan Alps, weddings at Villa Catureglio offer a secluded and special feel. Accommodation is available in the villa (suitable for 16 guests) and the cottage (suitable for another 25 guests) — each of which has its own pool.
There are flexible options for ceremonies to make the most of the space and your personal taste, with both intimate gatherings and bigger celebrations of up to 120 guests.
Villa Merlo Nero
Located 3 kilometers from Florence, the centerpiece of Villa Merlo Nero’s gardens is a manicured maze, in trademark Italian style.
There are a number of options to choose from. For the villa itself, boutique weddings of 60/65 guests are recommended. There's an opportunity for intimate gatherings to take place amongst the olive grove, with dinners overlooking the Maze, or in one of a number of terraces. There’s onsite accommodation for up to 26 guests.
Borgo Tre Rose
This luxury hotel is situated in Montepulciano, within a Tuscan hamlet dating back to the 13th century. Because of its location, a Borgo Tre Rose wedding is a potential option for couples looking to get married in a nearby church, to then enjoy a reception, dinner, and accommodation in close proximity.
The Church of Santa Lucia, Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, and Monastery of San Francesco are all accessible, and the venue will help plan travel arrangements. Civil ceremonies, however, take place on site, and have space for up to 130 guests, with accommodation across 19 rooms and 16 suites.
Lupaia
Last on the list is the boutique hotel Lupaia located in Siena. Getting its name for wolves (lupi in Italian) that used to roam the nearby countryside, this romantic and intimate Tuscan wedding venue is ideal for smaller weddings with a maximum of 35 guests.
With accommodation across five farmhouses available for the same number of people, you have the potential to celebrate and stay with all your loved ones.
